SOZO Wine Label

I cannot imagine a better job than the one I have, Bartending at Hotel 1000 downtown.  I feel very lucky to be able to do what I love and have a job that not only sustains my "hobby" but is very supportive.  If I need to take a busy Saturday night off because of an Art Opening, the management is amazing and understands that it is very important to me.

Recently we started carrying SOZO wine, http://www.sozofriends.com/ .  Check them out, they do amazing work and are helping our community and at the same time creating wonderful wine.

What is Sozo?
SOZO: (definition: to save, keep safe and sound, to rescue from danger or destruction). 1. To save a suffering one from perishing, (i.e. to make well, heal, restore to health)
The goal of Sozo is to produce and deliver artisan crafted wine and gourmet food for our friends to enjoy and at the same time feed a substantial number of people who live in poverty. We are working hard to be fanatical producers of great food & wine and efficient at distributing resources to the poor, while engaging with our friends to enjoy life and make a difference in our world needs.
All you have to do is choose the charity you want to support and feel good about making a positive difference in people's lives. Thank you for visiting Sozo Friends!

They are going to create a special Red Blend wine that will be exclusive to Hotel 1000! For the wine label they had a contest for the employees to submit artwork for the label.

They chose one of my red/black paintings to use as the label artwork!  I am very honored and excited about this opportunity!  The wine will be called BALANCE.

More to come later with photos of the label and dates for the launch party, it will be a very fun time sometime this spring!

Freedom in a Vessel at SAM Gift Shop

“Freedom in a Vessel”

Brooke Westlund is an emerging contemporary Seattle artist.  Brooke lives the spirit of the urban vibe in Seattle. Residing in the Belltown neighborhood, she bartends at a modern hotel bar, and works at her own studio in the iconic and exciting Pike Place Market. Brooke's paintings and jewelry are known not only in Seattle, but other major cities in the United States. Brooke is quickly becoming a successful mixed media artist and jewelry maker. “Made with love by a creative soul" is written on the back of her work, which represents her belief in putting love and care into each and every one of her pieces.

This collection- "Freedom in a Vessel" symbolizes a lightness of being. The collection begs the question, “is this complex or is this simple?” The symbolism resists the false dichotomy of choice.  It is both. It represents wholeness and embracing the ambiguity of many possibilities within us.

Brooke uses feathers from nature, blown glass, and sterling silver wire and fittings to create this collection.  Experience freedom in a vessel.

MADISON PARK ARTWALK!

I am participating in the Madison Park Artwalk again this year, the 2nd annual!  Last year there were about 400 people that came and we are hoping for more this year.  I am going to have my paintings in the Park Deli again, it was the best venue (I think it was the most fun and exciting of all the venues), we had a great party with amazing food prepared by John the owner.

Hoping for a good turnout this year as well!

ARTWALK WEBSITE

Come September 9th!  From 6-9 PM. There will be an opening reception at Starbucks, you can get a map of the artwalk and have a drink and some food.  I will probably be at Starbucks from 6-7ish than I will be in the Deli....  Hope to see you there!

TONIGHT!!! Party with a Purpose!

I can't wait for tonight!  Thank you for those of you that are coming and I cant wait to see you.  It should be a really great time and they sold out!  1000+ young people gathering to have a good time and also to gain awareness about global health issues,  very powerful.

If you are not able to make it tonight, here is a little look at the paintings and "statements" about them and the organizations.

I feel so honored to be a part of this major event!

Here is a sneak preview of the pieces that will be displayed tonight.

For IDRIInfectious Disease Research Institute.  They are creating a vaccine for TB!  Amazing!

"Hope in the Eyes of Despair"

In 2006, I spent 4 months in Kolkata, India caring for tuberculosis patients in Mother Teresa’s hospice program. The women I met who were dying of TB forever changed my life. When I discovered Seattle based Infectious Disease Research Institute (IDRI) I was eager to get involved. IDRI is doing tremendous work developing a vaccination to treat TB. This cause is incredibly dear to my heart, which is why I am such a strong advocate.  You can play a vital role in this revolution through your awareness and activism.

It is my hope, using artistic expression as a catalyst, to incite interest and awareness for the creation of this innovative vaccine.

I welcome any further conversation at my studio in Pike Place Market, where my work is available for viewing.

For PATH.  They developed a "needle-free" injector to spread the vaccines to areas without medical assistance.

"Simplicity saves lives"

The development of the needle-less syringe is revolutionary for vaccination. It will bring vaccines to those who need them most. The poor areas where there may be no trained medical personnel but maybe they have volunteers who want to help. This will eliminate the contamination that happens from needles and blood borne illness. It is very simple. The more people that can receive the vaccine, the less suffering that our brothers and sisters need to endure.

Party with a Purpose! June 17, 2011.

Hello Everyone!  I feel very honored to be the artist paired with the Infectious Disease Research Institute, they are the main organization that this party is benefiting.  They are doing research for an immunization for TB, Malaria, HIV and other major work!  I am creating a painting to show the evolution of the TB vaccine, it will be displayed at the party than will reside in the headquarters for IDRI.  This party is a big deal and I think that you all should come!  Check out the website and buy your tickets from the link there.

I hope to see you there!

Lots of love,

Brooke

It’s only two weeks away! Don’t forget to buy your tickets!

PIKE PLACE STUDIO GRAND OPENING!

I can't even really begin to describe how great it feels to be in this space in Pike Place.  Everything seems to be coming together even better than I expected and I don't think I would have even have been able to dream up this space and yet it had become the space of my dreams.  My neighbors who have had shops in the market for many years have welcomed me into their "market family" with open arms {and flowers} and so much love.  I feel VERY blessed!

Enjoy the photos from the opening of the studio which was a huge success, thank you for coming!
